For those of you confused as to what “drop back time” actually entails, keep reading. Drop Backs, droppies, gross steelhead, spring time steelhead, are all terms used to describe just that.
Gross ass steelhead that drop back in the spring time to the lake.
To some people fishing for steelhead that are dropping back to the lake after spawning is taboo. For others, it’s their favorite time of year.
On one hand I can see why people don’t like to fish for steelhead that have been beat up on all fall and winter long, just got done spawning, and are eating everything they can on their way back to the lake.
On the other hand I can see why people like to fish for steelhead that have been beat up on all fall and winter long, just got done spawning, and are EATING EVERYTHINGon their way back to the lake.
I mean come on, who doesn’t like to possibility of hooking over 20 fish in one day. I won’t even begin to tell you the numbers and damage my buddies and I have done on drop backs. You just wouldn’t believe us if you’ve never done it, especially if you’ve never done it from a boat!
So as the days get longer, the water and air temps go up, the fishing will soon get ridiculous. For those who catch it just right, they may even go home with a sore arm and a sore face from smiling all day.
